I am part of a growing community working to integrate song, science, nature and spirit. I would be interested in hearing from others who see song and story as healing forces in our culture, and from those who are blurring the boundaries between art and science.
I have been a full-time writer and singer for over 35 years. No day job. Over the years, I learned and unlearned a lot about vocal technique and expression and I enjoy helping others to free their voice. I have worked in professional theatre where I was described as “a musical instrument linked to a soul” for my passionate portrayal of French singer, Edith Piaf in a play I co-wrote. I have been lucky enough to win several writing awards: an Emmy-nomination and Cable ACE Award for Best Writing for The Song Spinner, a film about the transformative power of music, which starred Patti Lupone, Brent Carver, Meredith Henderson, and John Neville. The film also received many film festival awards, and my novel of the same name also received an award. I have released 5 CDs of my original songs which focus on conscious and juicy aging (Dancing with the Crone); our deep connection to the Earth and each other (Rescue Joy); love and intimacy (La tendresse); science, food and sex (Deep Fun); and the soundtrack to my cosmological musical about Bowen Island (Voices in the Sound). I welcome these “end” years of my life as a time to mentor, to share the hard-won wisdom of a life thoughtfully if sometimes brashly lived.
Music has been the great love of my life, and it’s my voice that has guided me through this amazing journey, as well as my deep love and connection with the natural world. More recently I have discovered that modern science is catching up with the mystics and the artists, and I’ve enjoyed attending science conferences, giving papers on the role of the artist, and writing songs inspired by recent scientific discoveries.

How fantastic to find such a wonderful human presence behind the “Song Spinner” film!!! No wonder it is one a a very few movies we allow our daughter to watch. And she so loves it! We are no/low media family. As a Waldorf teacher and Steiner methods advocate I so appreciate the film. (showed it a friend last week, she said “oh!!! a Waldorf Movie!!”) I am really looking forward to purchasing your book for my daughter, the books are always better, and know we will love it! Lovely work, much appreciated, thank you so!
Susan, Thank you for letting me know how much your family has enjoyed The Song Spinner. First time someone has called it a “Waldorf Movie.” I think you will also enjoy the novel. Baiya sheetoora. Pauline
Pauline, thanks God I’ve found your blog. Please I’ve looking for the music of the film “The song spinner”. I wuold like to ask what is the name of the final music scene of that movie?
Hi Mauro, The name of the final music in The Song Spinner is Baiya sheetoora, the phrase I invented as the way they say goodbye in the Waterland. It means “my music goes with you.” The music was written by Lawrence Schragg. The soundtrack was never recorded.
